As Geography, History, and Citizenship teachers in Quebec, our goal goes far beyond helping students memorize historical facts; it involves having students practice the intellectual operations (or IO’s) that support historical and geographical thinking.
One engaging way to support the development of intellectual operations is through inquiry.
By engaging in an Inquiry Process, we give students a structured way to ask powerful questions, explore diverse sources, and construct their own understandings of societies and territories.
Graphic Organizers
Here is a collection of graphic organizers to support elementary inquiry in Geography, History, and Citizenship Education. These organizers are available in English and French. They were developed as part of the Cycle 2 Student Field Journals. You can find teacher planners, tracking, and evaluation supports on the Field Journal’s page.
