This board game encourages students to compare New France and the 13 colonies around 1745. It can be played as a class, using an interactive whiteboard and printed cards, or in small groups, with printed game boards (for best results, print on 14 x 8.5 paper).
Each turn, students pick a trait card. They need to determine if the trait describes New France, the 13 colonies, or both. If they answer correctly, they can move ahead toward the end of the game board.
The conception of this game was aided by Gemini. It was asked to create a board game that students could understand and play within a 30-45 minute class to build competency 3. Gemini was used to generate content for the trait and challenge cards. After vetting the text, it was uploaded to Canva for Education as a CSV file. The cards were then created using Bulk Create (how-to video) from these templates: Trait Template and Challenge Template.
You could create a similar game to compare other societies and periods by adjusting the visuals on the gameboard and either creating or having students create their own cards.
