In this Cycle 2 activity, designed to last one to two periods, students learn about the Ohén:ton Karihwatéhkwen (translated in English as “the words that are spoken before all others” or the Thanksgiving Address), which was and still is practiced by Iroquoian Nations that are part of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Students will connect the words to daily life and the idea of borrowing or living in balance with the earth.
