STUDENTS
In grades 3 and 4, you learn about the Iroquoian and Algonquian language families around 1500 and 1745. In grade 5 or 6, you learn about the Inuit and Mi’kmaq Nations around 1980.
In this activity, you will learn more about these language families and the 11 Indigenous Nations with communities in Quebec. You will research which language(s) are spoken by members of each Nation, which language familyA language family is a group of languages related through descent from a common ancestral language or parental language, called the proto-language of that family. More members of the Nation self-identify with, and make connections between the historical time periods you learn about in class and the present day.

This activity supports students in drawing connections between the past and present. Students will access resourcesResources are anything taken from the earth or nature that people need, use, and are "valued". For example, a country that is rich in resources is one with good land, minerals that can be mined, seas or rivers that are plentiful and can be used for food and other uses.
