In 1745, a postal system linked the colonists in Massachusetts and Virginia. This system had been under royal control since 1711. It took a letter six days to travel from Boston to Philadelphia as couriers on horseback would relay the letter from one town to another. In New France, the government had a mail system between Québec City and Montréal, but there was no postal system for the public.
The Thirteen Colonies also had a better educational system than New France. The postal system allowed them to communicate with one another to discuss business and politics. With the creation of the inter-colonial postal system, the leaders of the colonies gradually developed common interests.
